The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 8th 2011
by Joseph Shulam
We are all back home and going full speed ahead. We are juggling projects and trying to figure out how to cover all of them and keep serving the Kingdom of God and Israel. We have good news from the city of Jerusalem – the building project is progressing and process of licensing is drawing near to a close. Our architects and lawyers have urged us to start a major fund-raising campaign a.s.a.p. The estimated cost of doing the building project and enlarging the auditorium and adding an extra floor to our building will cost at least 1.5 million dollars. At this point even before starting a major campaign for fund raising we have been blessed by brothers and sisters from around the world with around 300,000 dollars. We have a long way to go, but our faith in God and in our brothers and sisters around the world is solid. We know that the Lord will call on His children to stand up for Jerusalem in a way that there is non-equal to it.
Isaiah the prophet said: Is. 66:13 “As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” We are asking our brothers in Israel to sacrifice and we are cutting a little bit from the amounts of food that we are giving to the needy in the food distribution that we are doing in Netivyah. We are cutting to half the amount of fresh produces that we are giving to families so that we can keep feeding the same number of people and even increase the number of needy people a little. These are times when the financial situation of the Western World is in question, and we understand the difficulties of the times. However, when hard times come the model of the Bible is that people turn more to God and do more for God and for each other in order to get blessed by God.
All the financial difficulties are not worth a dime if God’s blessings is not upon us and when His blessing is upon us we can all enjoy the promises of God. We have promises that really work, and our family is a witness of the fact that they do work. We have Matthew 6: 31-33, “Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?’ or “What shall we drink?’ or `What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” This is not the only such a promise, but I don’t want to turn this prayer list to a Bible study. I just want to urge you to think about Jerusalem and to remember that the only collection of money in the New Testament was done by the Apostle Paul for the Poor Saints in Jerusalem. (See Romans 15:26-27) I have very seldom spoken about funds, but now it is the time to speak about them. From the moment that we get the green-light to build we have only one year to start building. If we start and get stuck without progress for one year, we will have to start the whole process from the very beginning. We are going to have the first Synagogue building of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua the Messiah in Jerusalem since the first century. Just accomplishing this task is a great accomplishment for the Kingdom of God and for Israel. Just join us in a very sincere prayer for this building. A small congregation in Korea fasted for forty days without lunches and gave 50,000 dollars for the building. Just two weeks ago a young family with two children came to me and gave 650 US dollars and said that they both sold their gold wedding bands and are giving this money for the building. Can you just imagine this my dear brothers and sisters this young family with two children took their wedding bands off their fingers went and sold them to give the money for Jerusalem. I was almost moved to tears by family after family who came to me at the front of their assembly and handed me envelopes with money for Netivyah. The very majority of these families were young and with children and babies on their hands, and they sacrificially contributed for Jerusalem. For Netivyah they were willing to go without their wedding bands. You can pray for us and you can know from God what will be your part in the Restoration of a Jewish Synagogue of Disciples of Yeshua the Messiah in Jerusalem. I can tell you that this week we received from someone in Texas a contribution through PayPal of $ 0.70 dollar. This is 70 cents that have come from a person that last month gave $ 2 dollars. I don’t know this person, but I do know the attitude of the Lord toward the widow in Jerusalem who gave two coins of a pruta – that is like two cents to the Lord. Yeshua considered those two cents of the widow more than the 1000 dinar of the rich because she gave them out of her poverty and out of her love for God. She sacrificed, that widow has become inscribed on the pages of God’s Word for all to know and honor her in her poverty she has become a VIP in Yeshua’s words. A year ago an old lady in Seoul, Korea, walked up to the podium when I was teaching in the Onnuri Church in Seoul, and she handed an envelope with 1000 US dollars to Dr. Song. She said that if 1500 people would give 1000 dollar each we will have the money for the building. The same day Dr. Song and his wife each gave also 1000 dollars. This might be a good program, but actually no amount is too small or too great. Netivyah has always kept the highest standard of integrity on all financial matters, and money designated for the building will go only for the building. For those who want to know how to contribute there are several ways of doing it:
1. Through PayPal – with a credit card: go to our web page: www.netivyah.org and you will find the link to PayPal – from there you will be guided.
2. You can send a personal check to Netivyah and mark it for the building. Our address is: Netivyah, P. O. Box 8043, Jerusalem 91080, Israel. You can also send a personal check to the North Boulevard church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA. This church has been handling funds for Netivyah for near 40 years and every dime come to Israel, but from there you can get the US tax system. You need to specify that the funds are for the building or soup-kitchen or any other need that you might want to contribute to: North Boulevard church of Christ, 1112 North Rutherford Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130, USA – phone number in the church is: +1-615-8931520.
3. You can do a bank transfer direct to Israel and for this you need to drop a note to Hannah Kovner our office manager and she will instruct you how to do it. Please identify yourself when you write and tell Hannah who you are and where you are from and from what fellowship you come. Hannah’s e-mail is: hkovner@netivyah.org.il
Our web page is full of interesting material both audio and printed and you ought to go and check it out anyway.
We continue to pray for the so called Arab Spring Uprising. I pray that the Lord will use this so called Uprising for something that will turn good for His Kingdom.
We pray for the sick among us: Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Sara, the older Zvi and the younger Zvi, and for the older David and the younger David, and for Ruby, and Tim Tucker, and Miriam and Merav in Jerusalem, and Dr. Tania, and for Marcia and Sarit, and especially for Liz our dear sister in Georgia, and Paulo in Brazil. I have a praise report to give you all. You have been praying for an old brother in Japan, Mr. Ishiida. He was very sick and could not get out of bed for many months, and in fact there was not too much hope for his recovery. Well, just a couple of weeks ago, I was in Japan and Mr. Ishiida and his wife were sitting on the front row in the conference, he was smiling and walking and talking and hearing and understanding the conference. God has healed him and restored him. We need to keep praying for Mr. Ishiida and his wife, and also for a 93 year old sister Mrs. Sadako. They are praying for the salvation of Israel for more than 75 years. Please also lift up a very dear young sister that answers to the name Shoko. She too needs a touch of the Master’s healing hands.
I will send this now and bless you all in Yeshua’s name. Disciples hear their Master’s voice, we all should strive to hear him and look for the fig tree blossoming,
Joseph Shulam
